In Zuck’s podcast with Lex Fridman that just released yesterday, he was asked how he thinks Meta’s Quest 3 will be able to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro.
One key feature he kept repeating is affordability: Meta’s headset will cost $500, while Apple’s will run you a cool $3,500.
Zuck said Meta had to make some hardware tradeoffs in order to keep their headset affordable for the masses, while Apple seems to have spared no expense to make their headset as advanced as possible.
When asked if he sees Apple’s headset as a threat to Meta Quest, he said he views it as the opposite.
He believes the Vision Pro will generate a ton of buzz in the MR/VR space (based on the news cycle this week, I’d say that’s pretty spot-on), but its imposing price tag will lead consumers, who will now be very excited about trying out MR/VR, to Meta’s more affordable option.
Do you think Meta will continue to dominate the wearable headset market? Or is Zuck underestimating how much $ consumers are willing to dish out for a true top-of-the-line product?
